Dr. George Townsend | Co-Director

BMBS PgCertClinEd FHEA FCICM

George works clinically as an intensivist at Royal Perth Hospital and has a formal appointment at the University of Western Australia co-ordinating part of their M.D. programme. He originally specialised in intensive care medicine in Western Australia before moving to the United Kingdom where he undertook a fellowship and subsequent consultant post at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He has interests in acute lung pathology, extra-corporeal supports, cardiac disease and simulation. In Perth he has furthered his passion for the delivery of education through multi-disciplinary immersive simulation and unit co-ordination at UWA and has co-created regional exam programmes for doctors specialising in intensive care medicine. George was invited to join WAVE after returning to Perth in 2024. As a WAVE committee member he plans to utilise his clinical experience in advanced mechanical ventilatory supports and clinical course design to add to the wide range of ventilatory expertise present across Western Australia. With his colleagues he hopes that WAVE will prove access to enhanced learning opportunities for multi-disciplinary healthcare staff and, subsequently, the bedside delivery of ventilatory care.
