Idunn is a clinical academic at the University of Sydney and an intensive care specialist at Nepean Hospital in Sydney. She completed her undergraduate medical degree in the UK and embarked on anaesthesia and intensive care training there before relocating to Sydney where she subsequently completed single specialty ICM training. Her postgraduate fellowships subsequently took her back to the UK for an ECMO retrieval fellowship during the early COVID pandemic and then on to Canada for a few years of focused research training. She is completing a PhD at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Ewan Goligher and Niall Ferguson on phrenic nerve stimulation to protect the lung and diaphragm during invasive mechanical ventilation for acute respiratory failure. Her clinical and research interests include respiratory physiology, acute respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation. She is on the Australian management committee for the multinational DRIVE RCT and has broader interests in research methodology and trial design.
